How To Apply for Tuition Assistance

The University Liggett School Tuition Assistance program is designed to make a University Liggett School education possible for all families. Award decisions are based on demonstrated financial need and the availability of funds. University Liggett School is proud to use the Clarity Application to determine a family’s level of financial need based on the information that families share in the application which includes assets, income, expenses, and debts.

To get started, please go to the Clarity Application and create an account. The application typically takes less than 30 minutes to complete. The Clarity Application is mobile-friendly so you can complete it from anywhere. You are also able to save your progress and return at any time. At the end of the application, there is a $55 fee to submit. You can share your application with additional schools that accept the Clarity Application for no additional charge. Simply use the dropdown menu in the application to select additional schools.

Please remember to return to your dashboard after you complete and submit your Clarity Application, as University Liggett School may require you to upload additional tax documentation.

Making Extraordinary Affordable

It’s not enough to provide an exceptional education. At University Liggett School, we work hard to make it accessible, with financial support that helps create a diverse and inclusive student body that’s welcoming to all. We strive to make tuition affordable for each family. With the exception of the 9th grade Liggett Merit Scholarship, all tuition assistance is based on a family's demonstrated need.

Beyond your investment - The annual cost of educating one student at University Liggett School exceeds our tuition. Tuition assistance at University Liggett School is available to bridge the gap between what a family can afford and the cost of an independent school education. As a result, our students represent a broad range of socioeconomic backgrounds, creating a student body diverse in thought and experience who are all on a journey of discovery together. Tuition Assistance funds are finite and are typically exhausted each school year by the February deadline. Applicant families requesting financial aid are encouraged to apply early and adhere to posted deadlines.

Frequently Asked Questions about Tuition Assistance

What assistance is available?

We strive to make tuition affordable for each family. With the exception of the 9th grade Liggett Merit Scholarship, all tuition assistance is based on demonstrated need. Tuition assistance does not need to be repaid.

Should I apply for tuition assistance?

Possibly. Many families who may not expect to be eligible actually qualify, and even a small reduction can make a critical difference. Your admissions associate can help.

Do you offer athletic scholarships?

No. MHSAA guidelines do not allow schools to award athletic scholarships. However, athletics and other talents may be factored into admission decisions and your family may be eligible for other forms of tuition assistance.

Do I need to apply for aid every year?
Yes. Families receiving tuition assistance must complete a Clarity Application each year in order to qualify for tuition assistance.  However, Clarity retains your information from previous applications, so it will be even easier to reapply.
Do all students who are offered admission receive financial assistance if they qualify?

Unfortunately, we are not able to offer assistance to every student who qualifies for admission. Each year, the demand for placement and financial aid exceeds the supply, which means students may be offered admission but wait-pooled for funding.

When students have parents or guardians who do not live together, do both households have to submit financial aid applications?

Yes. Each parent/guardian must submit a Clarity application to be considered. We determine ability to pay by factoring in all available resources from both parents/guardians and step parents, regardless of custody or other legal issues.

Is my family eligible for tuition assistance?

That depends on the calculations determined by the Clarity Application you submit, but a wide range of families do. Assets, family size, unusual medical expenses, the number of children in tuition-charging schools and other factors are all considered. Each situation is unique.

When will we know if we’re eligible for tuition assistance?

Notifications are made with admission decisions.

Is there a fee to apply for tuition assistance?

Yes. There is a fee to apply. Families receiving tuition assistance must complete the Clarity Application and pay the fee each year.

Who should I call if I have questions about applying for tuition assistance?

Your Admissions Associate can answer questions about the process, policies and deadlines. If you need support during the process of completing your application, there is in-app support available as well as email support at support@claritytuition.com in both English and Spanish.
